About the Game:
Debris² is an arcade style HTML game written using Matter.js. It was written for the Blocks Game Jam, which is why everything in the game is a square. Debris² is based off a small game I wrote over a year ago called Debris, with a similar concept to Debris². The older versions of Debris can be downloaded at the bottom of the page. (Debris does NOT meet the requirements for the game jam, I just wanted to include past versions).
Version Info:
Asteroid Falls - The earliest version of the game I could find. Back then the game simply consisted of avoiding different circles as they fell. There was no score, no change in gravity, you couldn't even die. The core game mechanics are still there, but it has none of the features or balance changes that are found in Debris².
Debris 1.0 - I call this version 1.0 because I considered it a finished game when I made it, but it is still very different from Debris². Compared to Asteroid Falls it was much more complete, and has more of the features that appear in Debris². This version features the addition of the ability to lose, a score counter , and a couple things that aren't in newer versions such as different shapes and random colors.
Note: Click on blank screen to start and reload the page after dying.
Experimental - This version was my first attempt at updating Debris. It is very hard to consider it playable due to numerous bugs, but it shows how I initially looked to update Debris. The big addition in the experimental version was reverse gravity. Gravity changed a lot more rapidly than it does in Debris² which can lead to some interesting situations. The known bugs in this version are the UI not updating from the start as well as a bug which causes blocks to fall out offscreen and not respawn during gravity changes. There are probably numerous bugs that I do not remember or haven't noticed.
Note: Click on blank screen to start and reload the page after dying.
Debris² - The current version of the game, built off of Debris 1.0. It features an numerous changes and improvements, including:
- Proper menu and death screens
- Anti-Gravity, but it actually works
- Balance changes
- Meteors
- UI Changes
- Color Changes
- Shape Changes
- Power-ups
- Scaling difficulty
- A cheat mode Easter egg
- and much more
Performance Issues:
Matter.js tends to run poorly on Chrome and Chromium based browsers such as Brave. If you are experiencing framerate issues, try using a different browser.

Cool my highscore is 1000
Thanks for playing, I hope you like the game!
I am little bit curious about that "null" value under the score, since I haven't see that issue before. Can you tell me if this shows up every time you play, or if something may have cause it to show up? Thanks!
Edit: Turns out this is caused by how Microsoft Edge displays null values. I went ahead an fixed it, so this shouldn't happen anymore.
Ok but I did really like the game!
